1550nm High Peak Power Short Pulsed Erbium Fiber Laser Module For LiDAR Range Finding
The short pulsed laser source module is a high peak power pulsed laser source based on the wavelength which is safe to human eyes. Adopting master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) architecture design and optimized multi-stage optical amplification, the laser source module can achieve high peak power laser output with ns level pulse width, suitable for automotive LiDAR, remote sensing surveying radar, laser ranging applications.
The short pulsed laser source module can be provided in circular and rectangular package, featuring compact structure, small size, wide range of work temperature and ultra-low power consumption. Besides, the pulse output can also be achieved by external TTL signal, suited for system integration.
These short pulsed laser source modules are applicable to various difficult working environments, suitable for automotive LiDAR system, Laser Range Finding,3D laser scanning system, etc.
Range finding is transformation of original range of data that is usually performed through employing Min-Max scaling technique. The main difficulty with range measurement and pulsed LiDAR is how to unambiguously determine the range to the target when the target returns a strong echo. Ambiguous range results from transmission of a sequence of pulses. In this view, fiber laser pulse repetition interval (PRI) is created, which is known as the spacing between transmit pulses. It is also described as a fiber laser pulse repetition frequency (PRF). Consequently, the delay time is created because of a spacing between transmit and return pulses. In this view, the delay time is generated and causes an ambiguity or uncertainty along the range direction.
The principle and technology of range measurement using airborne LiDAR (Baltsavias, 1999) are the same as those of terrestrial LiDAR (Vosselman and Maas, 2010). Measurement from the sky instead of the ground is suitable for obtaining height distribution in a relatively broad area. To enable stable measurement from a moving airplane or a helicopter, a fiber laser scanner is integrated with RTK-GPS and an inertial measurement unit. Data are typically acquired at a low relative height (200–2000 m from the ground), producing swathes of survey observations of similar width to flying height. The collected point cloud of height includes the height of objects on the ground such as trees and buildings. In the case of trees, it may be possible to obtain both tree and ground surfaces by measuring both first and last returns from a single pulse; the first return should represent the canopy top and the last return should penetrate the tree cover and may represent the ground surface.
